What’s Actually Good About Marble
The main thing is that no two pieces look the same. You can pick a slab in the showroom and know that the worktop going into your kitchen won’t be quite like anyone else’s. The veining moves differently through every block that comes out of the quarry, so there’s a genuine one-off quality to it that you don’t get with man-made surfaces.
It also has a nice cool feel to the touch, which is partly why bakers have used marble slabs for pastry work for generations. And there’s a weight to it, both literally and in how it makes a room feel. A lot of our customers say the worktop is what finally pulled their whole kitchen together.
Now, the bit we always mention before anyone signs off on an order: marble is softer and more porous than granite or quartz. It’s not the toughest surface out there. Lemon juice, wine, vinegar – that sort of thing can etch the surface if it sits there too long. It’ll need sealing now and again to keep it performing well.
We would rather tell customers this upfront than have them find out the hard way six months in. Most people who choose marble know exactly what they’re getting into, and they’re fine with treating it a little more carefully than they might a granite worktop. It tends to work best on an island, a splashback, or a lower-traffic area of the kitchen rather than the spot right next to the hob where every pan gets slammed down.

The Types We Work With
Carrara marble kitchen worktops are the one most people picture when they think of marble. Soft white or grey background, fine grey veining running through it. It comes from Italy, has been done for centuries, and it suits pretty much any kitchen style, old or new.
Calacatta marble worktops are a step up in terms of drama. Whiter background, thicker veins, sometimes with gold or darker grey running through. If you want the worktop to be a talking point rather than just a backdrop, this is usually the one.
Statuario marble tops sit at the top end. Bright white, bold sculptural veining, and it’s rarer than the other two, so it costs a bit more. But if budget allows, it’s genuinely stunning in person – photos don’t really do it justice.
White marble kitchen countertops are far and away our most requested option. Carrara, Calacatta and Statuario all fall into that white marble family, just with different amounts of veining and contrast. They brighten a room up no end and work with almost any cabinet colour, which is probably why they’re so popular.
If you’re after something a bit different, black marble kitchen countertops are also worth a look. Nero Marquina is the one most people go for, with its dark, almost jet-black background and sharp white veining running through it. It’s a striking option for anyone wanting a kitchen with a bit more drama or a contemporary, moody feel.

Keeping It Looking Good
We talk customers through aftercare once the worktop’s fitted, but the short version is:
Wipe up spills quickly, particularly anything acidic. Stick to a pH-neutral stone cleaner rather than whatever’s under the sink. Don’t put hot pans straight onto the surface. Use a board when you’re chopping. Get it resealed every so often – we’ll tell you roughly how often based on the marble you’ve gone for.
Marble does change a bit over time. Small marks and a slight softening of the shine – some people call it patina, and honestly, a lot of our customers end up liking that it shows some history.
